Don’t think you can afford an interior designer? Here’s why you can’t afford NOT to use one!
Written by Catherine Seagrave
You’ve moved into your new home. It’s taken almost all your savings and now you need to furnish it and transform it into your home on a tight budget. You feel with no money to spare, getting help from an interior designer would take a large chunk of your cash and be a luxury you can’t afford. You’d have to go without essential items or risk compromising on the look you want. And why spend extra money on a designer when you can do it yourself? Right??
Wrong! Sadly we are often brought into the process when people have found out the hard way that interior design isn’t that easy and they didn’t get the results they were after. We’ve had customers tell us of sleepless nights when their dream kitchen didn’t turn out to be the colour they wanted, customers in tears over sofas that didn’t fit well in their space, and others who were just disappointed after spending their hard earned cash and not achieving the look they expected.
The good news is that we can still help you put it right, but the worry and stress you’ve experienced takes its toll, and the money has been spent and time has been wasted.
So whilst you’d be right in thinking a professional will cost you money and use part of your budget, it is also exactly the time you need to use them most. What you pay in fees is often far less than you would have spent on costly design mistakes. If you choose your designer wisely, they could in fact benefit your overall budget, saving you time, money and those sleepless nights and giving you the home of your dreams without the headache!
Read on to see how we can help you, regardless of your budget.

Avoid making mistakes in the first place
How often have you gone shopping and come home with an impulse buy? You loved the colour, or the display in the shop but have no idea how it will work in your home. You just bought it because you liked it. Now your new sofa doesn’t match anything else and you find yourself contemplating redecorating the whole room to make it work. Suddenly your budget has gone through the roof!!
Hiring an interior designer before you start buying anything at all is a great move. We listen carefully to your wants, likes and dislikes, and work out where your money can be best spent. We do the legwork for you and know to check measurements, lead times, pricing, and durability at the start. Careful planning of the room can avoid costly mistakes and we give you great advice along the way on everything from the best paint colour for your north facing room, to choosing furniture that’s the right size and shape, and considering finishes that are family friendly and durable.

Use only the money you have to achieve the look you want
If your budget is small it can be really difficult to stick to it. It can be so easy to get sidetracked by expensive options and before you know it, you’ve blown your budget and you’re nowhere near finished. You might think that interior designers only work with customers with large budgets, (and sometimes we do) but we also know how to make your limited money stretch. You don’t need to have a huge budget in order to create a beautiful and functional room. We know where to use it for maximum impact and where you can use some cheats to get the look. We do the research and hard work for you - you are presented with a complete scheme to the budget you specify. You can see how it will all work together beautifully. And with a clear and easy shopping list, you know where the money is being spent so you can make all the right decisions. This way you can stay on track, confident in how you will achieve the look and maximising every pound you have.
Achieve the expensive look you love for less
Are you the type that is always drawn to the most expensive thing in the shop? Do you naturally seem to fall in love with the most expensive fabric in the book? Do you feel you need to keep every penny to be able to afford it? When you ask for our help, you are buying our years of experience on how to achieve a look for less. We have a vast knowledge of products and styles, and hacks to share with you to save you thousands of pounds. We take the look you’ve been dreaming of and can recreate it to your budget.
We can shop from anywhere to suit your style and budget. Click here to get started.
Know your furniture will fit and it will all look great together from the start
Buying the wrong furniture for your space can be really costly and upsetting. But working with an online interior designer can help you make sure this doesn’t happen. With our scale room layouts and visualisations, the guesswork is removed. You can see your actual room, designed with real furniture and you can easily imagine how it will all fit together. You will be able to visualise the final result of the design before you buy a single thing so you can be completely sure of your choices from the very start.
Choose the right furniture for your lifestyle
The practicality of an item is so important to the success of a design - and ultimately to your budget. If you buy a beautiful silk rug, but have a big hairy dog, chances are you’re going to be replacing that rug pretty soon! Designing child and pet-friendly rooms are two of our biggest customer requests. Get it wrong and you’re back to costly mistakes again, and balancing beauty and practicality can feel like a challenge. But by asking the right questions early on, and understanding your lifestyle needs, we avoid choosing items that won’t stand the test of time. We’ve had requests for rugs that won’t collect pet hair, living rooms that need maximum storage for kids toys, sofas that need to be stain repellant, and floors that need to be anti-slip for 3 legged cats. We’ll guide you to the right pieces and solve your problems before they become a problem!

Work with items you already have to keep costs down
If you have any item in your home that you would like to keep, show us. Whether an old bookcase, painting or chair, we can integrate it into your design and make sure it looks like it was meant to be there. We can use our professional eye to see pieces you own in a different way, and give suggestions for editing or upcycling. Not everything needs to be new - and because we make money only through the design fee, we have no incentive to tell you to buy new, if what you have is still good. It’s amazing how different something can look in a different setting - saving you money and reducing landfill.
