Top 10 sofa beds selected by an interior designer

Written by Sophie Clemson

I have recently decorated my home office, and now I’m on the hunt for a sofa bed. I have searched endlessly, as the sofa bed I’m looking for needs to be a certain size, fabric, and colour. On my quest to find the perfect sofa bed for my home office, I've discovered some beautiful sofa beds that I wanted to share. From sofa beds with pull-out mattresses to storage sofa beds, chairs, and footstools, yes, I really have trawled the web! To save you time, here’s a roundup of my top 10 sofa beds from well-known high street brands.

Dunelm Harlow Storage Double Sofa Bed

What I love about the Harlow sofa bed from Dunelm is the storage element. It’s great to store away any bedding and pillows that you can easily access for your guests. There are some lovely colour options to choose from. The velvet orange umber is my favourite, it's a beautiful, rich colour, which makes this sofa bed look much more expensive.

IKEA Hyltarp 2 seater sofa bed

The Hyltarp sofa bed from IKEA is a transitional style with the slip cover design. If you’re looking for a sofa bed with a traditional feel that’s going to work with modern pieces, this one's for you. A fantastic feature with this sofa bed is that the cover is washable, and you can buy the slip covers separately, providing longevity. When you want to update the room and change the colour scheme, this sofa bed is perfect, as you can purchase new slip covers to make it feel like new.

Swoon Klee two seater sofa bed

The Klee from Swoon is a mid-century style, which I love. The walnut plinth makes this sofa bed feel a little more special than the usual click clack sofa bed design. The fabric is a beautiful olive green velvet, which would pair well with rust, plaster pink, or neutral cushions.

Dusk Hudson click clack sofa bed

The Hudson sofa bed from Dusk has a minimal and sleek look with its slimline black legs and shape. It's a simple click clack design that you can easily fold down to go from sofa to bed. It’s great value for money, just like Dusk’s other fabulous home products.

Daals Pienza cane sofa bed

The cane arms and wooden frame of the Pienza sofa bed from Daals will add some natural texture into your room. If you’re going for a light and airy look with a scandi feel, then this sofa bed would fit in perfectly. It’s also available in two other colours, which are equally as stylish.

Swyft Model 08 2 seater sofa bed

We recently used the model 08 sofa bed from Swyft in a customer design scheme for their home office because of its shape and compact size. What’s great about Swyft sofa beds is you have lots of fabric to choose from, so if you’re set on a particular colour, they might just have the fabric you’re looking for. They sell mattress protectors separately for your sofa bed for you to give your guests some extra comfort.

Willow and Hall The Buttermere sofa bed

Willow and Hall are a brilliant choice if you’re looking for a sofa bed that is going to be used more than just once every Christmas. Not only do you have over 150 fabrics to choose from, but you can also choose the filling and the type of mattress. Of course all these extras mean you’ll need a healthy budget for your sofa bed, but if it's going to be used often, then it may just be worth it.

Homebase Jenson click clack sofa bed

The Jenson sofa bed from Homebase is a simple modern shape. It has lift-up storage, which is always a bonus. It's a stylish sofa bed that would work in many spaces and, most importantly, is great value for money.

Dunelm Beatrice snuggle single sofa bed

If you’re tight on space, it's definitely worth considering a sofa bed chair. The Beatrice snuggle chair is one of my favourites, it has a traditional feel with the shape and turned legs. There are a few colours to choose from, but olive green would be my choice because of its richness in colour, and well, I just love green!

Loaf bed in a button

Could a bed be any more discreet than the bed in a button from Loaf? This sofa bed can be part of your living room. Having multiple uses as a footstool, coffee table, additional seating, and a bed, it really is a multifunctional piece of furniture. I love how it gives the effect of a buttoned headboard when being used as a bed, it's such a clever design. Another highlight is that it's available in 135 fabrics, so you won’t have to compromise on your choice of fabric with this one.
