Colour Drenching
I’m a huge fan of colour drenching, and I have recently used this technique in my own home. If you've not heard of the term colour drenching before, you certainly will next year, as it looks like it's going to be a very popular interior trend—which is exciting!
Colour drenching is where you paint the entire room in one colour. This includes the walls, ceiling, and woodwork. At The Living House, so many of our customers are embracing this bold approach in their homes, moving away from the all-grey rooms that were so popular in previous years. Colour drenching is a fantastic way to add drama and a cosy atmosphere to your room. It works great if you’re going for a dark and moody feel but also looks amazing if you’re a neutral lover too! Whether you choose deep, rich tones or soft, calming shades, this trend is all about adding depth and warmth, resulting in a cosy and cocooning space.
Hidden doors
Now this is a fun one! Why not have your very own Narnia and hidden space? We have seen hidden rooms trending over social media in recent months, and we think this trend is only going to get bigger in 2025. We work with so many customers who are renovating and are opting to incorporate a hidden room to add some fun to their home.
Hidden rooms can add an element of surprise and intrigue to your home. They can make your home feel a little whimsical, but they also provide that extra level of functionality and uniqueness. At The Living House we are big fans of this trend, so of course, we had to share a few of our favourite hidden room ideas to inspire you. From clever storage solutions to cosy snug rooms, there are endless possibilities for creating a hidden space that fits your family needs.
Kitchen pantry
A hidden pantry is such a clever storage idea! It may look like regular kitchen doors, but once you open them, you’re transported into an organised pantry—this is one place to hide from the kids! If you’re making changes to your kitchen, a hidden pantry would certainly be a great addition.
Snug room
A cosy, snug room tucked away behind a hidden door is the ultimate whimsical escape! Imagine a bookcase that, at first glance, looks like a place to display your books, but with a secret twist: as the bookcase door opens, it reveals a cosy and inviting snug room. To make it even more fun, why not turn a book into the secret lever? It could be the place you retreat to after a long day to chill and escape to for some peace and quiet.
Home office
Do you need a home office but want it to be separate, where you can close the door after a long day? Then a hidden door could be the perfect solution! You can get creative and use panelling to seamlessly blend the door into the wall, making your office space disappear when not in use.

Transitional interior style
Transitional is an interior design style we have spoken about previously. At The Living House, we absolutely love this trend and see it continuing to grow into 2025. Transitional is where the new and old come together by using vintage and contemporary pieces in one space. By incorporating vintage pieces, you not only bring a sense of history into your home but also add character for a timeless aesthetic.
To create a transitional look in your home, it's all about mixing textures and patterns that complement each other while embracing both classic and contemporary influences. This trend will give your home a cohesive feel while being full of personality.
When designing with a transitional style, it also means you can usually pick up a bargain piece of old furniture from places like Facebook Marketplace, therefore not only are you being sustainable but stylish too!
Mixing metals in your kitchen and bathroom
For a long time, matching metal finishes in spaces like kitchens and bathrooms has been the go-to approach for a cohesive look. However, mixing metals looks like it's set to be a trend for 2025. Incorporating different metals allows you to combine different finishes—like brass, nickel, chrome, and matt black, for a layered and curated look.
For instance, pairing warm metals like brass or copper with cooler ones like stainless steel or brushed nickel can bring balance to your design, it helps to avoid that matchy matchy look. This trend will work well in kitchens and bathrooms for hardware such as handles and lighting. To keep the space feeling cohesive, stick to two or three finishes and distribute them thoughtfully throughout the room for a well designed look.
Decorative finishes are here to stay
Last year we said how decorative finishes were going to be big for 2024, and we’re thrilled to say that they’re here to stay for 2025! At The Living House, we love choosing pieces that have decorative finishes, such as bobbin legs on a side table, scallop edging on lighting, and ruffles on cushions. Decorative finishes add personality and fun to your home. They’re also a fantastic way to embrace a maximalist style without using bold colours and patterns.
If you would love to add some decorative finishes to your home, there are so many beautiful options from high street brands. The Remi scallop console table from Dunelm would add a touch of fun to your hallway, or the Lindi scallop wall lights from Lights & Lamps would add an elegant feel to your walls and soften the room. These pieces are perfect for adding character without overwhelming your decor, proving that small details can make a big impact. Whether it's through furniture, lighting, or accessories, at The Living House we think decorative finishes are a trend worth trying!
An earthy colour palette
A warm and earthy colour palette is set to be here for 2025. Think muddy browns, reds with brown undertones, deep plaster pinks, cinnamon oranges, and warm neutrals with subtle red and pink hues. These are the types of colours that wrap a room in warmth, making it a space you’ll never want to leave! Pair these shades with layered lighting such as wall lights, table lamps, and floor lamps to enhance the welcoming feel of an earthy colour palette. Bring in textures through the soft furnishings and natural finishes to add a layer of comfort and depth to the room.
An earthy colour palette also works beautifully with the colour drenching technique, so why not embrace both of these trends to create a truly cocooning and cosy home!
Dark woods
In the latter part of this year, we’ve noticed a resurgence of dark wood furniture. For quite some time now, it's been heavily focused on light woods and a Scandi minimalist style. It’s great to see that dark woods are making a comeback and are set to grow in popularity in 2025.
Dark wood furniture works well if you’re wanting to achieve a traditional and contemporary mix in your home, it can add depth and richness to a room. If you’re not quite ready to embrace the dark wood trend just yet, then take a look at smoked oak furniture like the Bibury smoked oak from the Cotswold Company for a timeless and classic look.
Wallpaper isn’t just for your walls
People are becoming bolder with their design choices, this includes wallpaper, and we don’t just mean for the walls. Get ready to see lots of wallpapered ceilings in 2025.
Ceilings can often be forgotten, but they need as much attention as the rest of the room. See the ceiling as the fifth wall and wallpaper it! This trend also works beautifully if you have a traditional property with a picture rail, as you can start the wallpaper from the picture rail up to the ceiling, which will add height to the space.
If you really want to embrace being bold with wallpaper in 2025, then just like colour drenching, go for it and wallpaper every wall, including the ceiling. Let's call this wallpaper drenching!
We really enjoy exploring the new trends each year and seeing what is going to be popular. Something we want to be clear on is that when making changes in your home, avoid buying into a trend just because it's a ‘trend.’ Only choose pieces you truly love and that reflect your style and personality. Trends come and go, and your home should be filled with things you love and that are personal to you and your family.
